August 2015—Freezerworks released Freezerworks 2015, a major upgrade of its sample tracking and freezer inventory program. The upgrade offers advanced patient data management and security along with improvements in usability and integrates its two laboratory sample management programs, Basic and Unlimited, into a single platform. Current owners can upgrade to one of three editions, Base, Ascent, and Summit. Basic users will upgrade to the Base edition, which offers the features of the current version along with a number of features from the Unlimited version. Unlimited users will choose to be grandfathered to the Summit or Ascent edition.
The Summit edition includes a configurable patient management module to link patients to sample records and security features that shield patient health information from unauthorized viewers. User-defined fields can be tagged as a PHI field, and thus automatically hidden. The audit trail records each time sensitive patient data is viewed, by user, time, and date.
Enhancements can be seen in the user-friendly import, user-defined field creation, and label-printing options, and group ownership of data fields. A RESTful Web application program interface includes a secure Web-based search tool and easy integration with other data sources.
