Point-of-care CBC system, 3/15

March 2014—The Ativa microlab from Ativa Medical is a point-of-care device designed to perform the most common blood-based tests in a clinical setting in five minutes. The system requires only a few drops of blood and runs on a disposable microfluidic card.

A 100-patient study of blood specimens (30 percent normal, 70 percent abnormal) compared the CBC testing accuracy and precision of the Ativa microlab with results from the Abbott Cell-Dyn hematology analyzer. All test results were comparable. The microlab is not yet commercially available.
