July 2016—Bio-Rad Laboratories released its Liquichek Maternal Serum II Control, a frozen liquid human serum-based material designed to monitor the precision of laboratory test procedures used during maternal serum second trimester screening.

The maternal serum control includes alpha fetoprotein, free estriol, human chorionic gonadotropin, and inhibin A, making it ideal, according to the company, for laboratories performing triple or quadruple marker screening. The liquid form eliminates the need for reconstitution, allowing samples to be treated the same way as patient specimens. As an independent quality control, Liquichek Maternal Serum II Control is not optimized for a specific test system.

The multiconstituent control is designed for use on various instruments and reagent systems, is available in three individual levels, and offers a three-year shelf life when stored at -20° to -70°C and an open-vial stability of 30 days when stored between 2° and 8°C.
