October 2017—BioMérieux announced that BacT/Alert Virtuo, its fully automated blood culture system, has received 510(k) clearance from the FDA and is commercially available in the United States and in countries that recognize the CE mark.
BacT/Alert Virtuo is the first continuously monitoring blood culture microbial detection system to offer “load and go” technology, which aims to help labs to streamline their workflow. Personnel of all skill levels can easily load bottles on the instrument at any time, enabling prompt incubation and reducing hands-on time. Bottle unloading is fully automated with final negative bottles removed in batch or on demand.
The system offers powerful proprietary algorithms, high thermal stability, and superior optics to increase performance and for a quicker time to detection. It features automated blood volume level detection and offers an integrated configuration with scalable incubation capacity from 428 to 1,712 cells.
