Puritan Medical Products announced that its flocked swab products do not infringe on the intellectual property of Copan, according to a decision recently issued by the European Patent Office. Copan’s European patent for its Floq-Swabs covers swabs in which the “fiber covers the tip in the form of a layer with a uniform thickness” and is “deposited by flocking in an ordered arrangement of the fiber normal to the surface of the tip of the rod.” Puritan said its HydraFlock and PurFlock Ultra products are flocked differently, and do not have Copan’s claimed fiber arrangement.
