January 2015—The TB MODS Test Kit, from Hardy Diagnostics, uses the microscopic observation of drug susceptibility (MODS) method to simultaneously detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis and the strain’s resistance to two common tuberculosis antibiotics—isoniazid and rifampicin. The test kit uses a liquid culture medium to accelerate growth, averaging five to 10 days. Vials and reagents are color coded to simplify the procedure and to reduce the possibility of errors. The antibiotics are in an easy-to-dissolve tablet form, which requires no measuring, weighing, or mixing. Only an inverted microscope is required for full utilization. The test kit is for research use only.
