April 2024—Bayer and Thermo Fisher Scientific announced that they will develop next-generation sequencing–based companion diagnostic assays to help identify patients who may benefit from Bayer’s precision cancer therapies. The assays will be developed using Thermo Fisher’s Oncomine Dx Express test on the Ion Torrent Genexus Dx system. The Genexus Dx instrument and Oncomine Dx Express test are CE-IVD marked and only available in countries that accept the CE mark.

February 2024—Thermo Fisher Scientific announced an exclusive distribution agreement with Aesku Group to market, sell, and support Aesku’s portfolio of FDA-cleared immunofluorescence products, automated instruments, and software in the United States. The agreement expands Thermo Fisher’s immunology product portfolio of Elia autoimmune diagnostics, ImmunoCap allergy diagnostics, and Phadia systems to include complementary reagents and systems from Aesku.

May 2021—Thermo Fisher Scientific launched its Applied Biosystems TaqMan SARS-CoV-2 Mutation Panel, with a customizable menu of 22 verified real-time PCR assays for identification of SARS-CoV-2 mutations. The assays enable surveillance of variants that cause COVID-19 infection in specific regions globally and allow laboratories to choose which mutations to track.

March 2021—Thermo Fisher Scientific announced the availability of a direct from saliva PCR test for COVID-19 to enable widespread, high-frequency surveillance testing. The Applied Biosystems TaqCheck SARS-CoV-2 Fast PCR Assay Kit is a multiplexed RT-PCR assay for the qualitative detection and characterization of SARS-CoV-2 RNA (S and N genes) plus a human RNAse P assay to help assess sample adequacy. The assays are designed to work with raw saliva from research samples.

April 2020—Thermo Fisher Scientific introduced the Ion Torrent CarrierSeq ECS Kit for the Ion GeneStudio S5 system. The next-generation-sequencing–based solution consolidates a multiplatform approach into a single solution.

March 2020—Thermo Fisher Scientific and NanoPin Technologies have entered into a collaborative relationship to advance blood-based infectious disease detection technology through the development of highly sensitive liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry–based workflows.
