April 13, 2018Sakura Finetek USA launched its Tissue-Tek Prisma Plus Automated Slide Stainer, a second-generation Prisma platform with a throughput of 530 slides per hour.

“Like its predecessor, the Tissue-Tek Prisma Automated Slide Stainer, with several thousand units installed worldwide, Tissue-Tek Prisma Plus continues to be the slide stainer of choice for large commercial laboratories and hospitals,” George R. Kennedy, SVP of sales and marketing at Sakura Finetek USA, said in a press release. “We are proud of the performance data for the Prisma stainer family, which confirms best-in-class reliability with industry leading mean time between repair of greater that 52 weeks. This product is simply unmatched in our industry.”

Prisma Plus software offers 50 stain reagent colors so that users can visually differentiate the stain components and their location within the stainer. Various stains running in parallel are customizable with a choice of 50 user-defined staining protocols. The barcode scanning system scans staining kits and their components and logs the information in the system software. This feature aims to improve documentation and help laboratories to more easily comply with inspection agency requirements. The company’s Tissue-Tek iSupport system provides remote diagnostics and monitoring.

The Prisma Plus can be connected with the Tissue-Tek Film Coverslipper or the Tissue-Tek Glas g2 Coverslipper to create an integrated, fully automated walkaway staining process from slide baking to slide drying.
