At the AACC Show 2014

September 2014—Beckman Coulter Diagnostics showcased five laboratory solutions in its booth, which was themed “New Laboratory Challenges Require New Thinking”: the Power Express automation solution consolidates immunoassay, hematology, and coagulation; the DxH Connected Workcell offers labs workflow management while delivering comprehensive and accurate patient results; the latest addition of the IRIS International urinalysis portfolio; the Remisol Advance enterprise data management system; and its immunoassay diagnostic testing menu, which includes AccuTnI+3 troponin I in the cardiac panel, the Prostate Health Index (phi) as part of the men’s health panel, and a complete reproductive panel.

The company also provided information about its partnership with cloud-computing service hc1.com. Hc1.com will serve as Beckman Coulter’s exclusive health care relationship management solution to help U.S. laboratories manage their critical business needs. The hc1.com software solution is designed to help laboratories gain real-time understanding of key metrics such as test turnaround time, test utilization by clinician, and productivity per lab operator.

In news released before the meeting, the company announced it has entered a definitive agreement to purchase the clinical microbiology business of Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics. The Siemens clinical microbiology business is an established leader in microbial identification and antibiotic sensitivity testing and operates with an installed base of more than 6,000 instruments globally. The microbiology product line includes the MicroScan instruments and MicroScan panels and consumables, along with data management solutions. The transaction is expected to close in 2015 and is subject to applicable regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.
