May 2017—Meridian has developed anti-Müllerian hormone antibodies produced in chickens using a synthetic peptide representing a linear epitope on the human AMH protein. Initial purification of total IgY from eggs was followed by affinity purification against the peptide as an immunogen to yield a monospecific antibody. All antibodies can be used in ELISA.
AMH has gained interest as an indicator of ovarian function and fertility, according to a company statement. Serum levels serve as a biomarker for the relative size of a woman’s ovarian reserve and have clinical importance in predicting the success of in vitro fertilization. AMH can also be used as a surrogate diagnostic marker of polycystic ovary syndrome in cases when ultrasonographic examination is not possible.
