Feb. 8, 2018Advanced Instruments announced its Osmo1 Single-Sample Micro-Osmometer. It is suited for clinical laboratories that directly draw and test small sample volumes and was designed specifically to improve efficiency and reduce sample turnaround time.

The instrument measures the osmolality of body fluids, such as whole blood, serum, plasma, urine, feces, sweat, and tissue homogenate, using the freezing point depression method, which provides results in 90 seconds. Only 20 μL of sample is needed.

Features of the Osmo1 include an interactive touchscreen, an onboard printer, and a 2-D barcode scanner, which provides positive sample identification to reduce transcription errors. A dedicated space holds the re-packaged Micro-Sample Test Kit, which houses sampler tips, chamber cleaners, and replacement plunger wire. Osmo1 connects to LIS and data management systems via Ethernet connectivity; data can be transferred via the printer or exported using the USB ports.

This model replaces the Advanced 3320.
