April 2015—The Dysis Advanced Cervical Imaging System, a computerized diagnostic tool designed to assist in the early detection of cancerous and precancerous cervical lesions, is available from Dysis Medical in the U.S. after undergoing testing and review in Europe.

The FDA-cleared medical device helps identify abnormalities on the cervix, which can sometimes escape detection during a standard colposcopy.

A high-resolution digital image of the cervix is displayed on the Dysis touchscreen monitor; image color, brightness, contrast, and magnification can be adjusted as necessary. After the acetic acid is applied to the surface of the cervix via a built-in syringe with diffuser for instant, homogenized coverage, the operator uses the touchscreen interface to conduct a standard colposcopic examination. The system then measures the acetowhitening effect, and the dynamic spectral imaging records the acetowhitening process. The system then produces a Dysismap Advanced Cervical Scan, which shows the areas of the cervix where acetowhitening is most extreme and most likely to contain abnormal cells.

The Dysismap can be used to mark biopsy points that may be needed based on the information displayed as well as other examination information. The scanned digital image of the cervix and Dysismap showing acetowhitening and biopsy points are then saved along with patient notes entered via the touchscreen.
